Intern

Intern Opportunity

Thanks to a grant from the Copyright Agency, we are currently offering two opportunities for emerging or established First Nations and CaLD editors to write and acquit a grant and be paid $5000.

We’ve designed this opportunity to upskill First Nations and CaLD arts workers in the administration aspects of running a literary journal and to provide networking and skills sharing. Learn how to write a project description, project rationale, prepare a budget, and assemble support material. Come up with your own ideas for a grant and receive mentorship to develop them. The successful candidate will be mentored on how to structure a strong application. This is a professional development opportunity and a chance to realise your vision for what you’d like to see Mascara Literary Review do. We estimate this will be 80 hours of work, however we expect the period of commitment would be approximately 4-6 weeks over a six month period to align with the journal’s production.

Some background knowledge about grants for literature: it is a common experience for a grant application to be knocked back but the emerging editor will be paid for this work regardless of the outcome. This opportunity will be offered under a written agreement.

How to apply: Send a brief project proposal, CV and bio not more than 1 page to our portal submissions@mascarareview.com Subject title: ‘Grantwriting’

Applications close 27th February 2026.
